As technology is now completely embedded within our lives, it’s no surprise that digital tools are also entering the classroom. We’ve invested in some of the most advanced educational technology available because we know it’s crucial for students to familiarise themselves with new innovations as they prepare to enter the digital professional world.

But, we’re careful not to invest in a new tool simply because we can. Any technology that’s embedded within the curriculum must enhance the way our teachers teach and our students learn. If it doesn’t, we leave it on the shelf.

How we teach is just as important as what we teach. We’ve incorporated state-of-the-art 3D technology including 3D projectors, green screens, use of Mobile & Tablet devices and new software technology into the curriculum to help students better understand abstract ideas. Using the technology, they can visualise, inspect, and decipher study materials right in front of them, which is a far more effective way to retain knowledge than transcribing a lecture.

These sort of tools benefit our pupils and support them towards their next stage of education and in their long-term future. The ability to create visualisations of abstract concepts and intangible connections assists students in comprehending the most challenging concepts. Likewise, this tool allows teachers to spend time engaging the topics critically and analytically with students, instead of dedicating copious amounts of time to description and explanation.

The potential for educational technology, such as this, is massive. Today, we use it to assess students and apply teaching methodologies in a creative way across the curricula. In fact, Aldar Academies has a dedicated Director of Innovation and Special Projects, who spearheads the use of innovation and technology to enhance our students’ educational experience.

Beyond engaging them, technology also has the power to bring students and teachers together in collaboration. We make it happen using the Microsoft Office 365 Education platform, which groups together familiar programs like Word and PowerPoint. But that’s not all.

The platform provides an online workspace where students can get together to chat about a project, share multimedia content, and solve problems 24 hours a day, from the comfort of home. At the same time, teachers can monitor a project and provide feedback in real-time, to fill in any knowledge gaps instantly.

The tool is perfect for what’s known as Project-Based Learning (PBL), a form of teaching pedagogy which deepens a student’s knowledge by challenging them to complete real-world tasks. Group thinking and working is a must in PBL, and it’s a skill that will be vital to students in their professional lives.

Of course, the careers our children will eventually launch will be even more digitised than they are today. By learning with technology from the very start of their education, students develop a familiarity with the tools they’ll use throughout their careers.

As a reflection of our commitment and outstanding use of integrating technology within education, we are very proud of the fact that we are the 1st private school group in the Gulf region to have all our schools accredited as Microsoft Showcase Schools. More information about Microsoft Showcase Schools can be found here.

At  Aldar Academies, we are dedicated to empowering our staff, students and wider school communities with essential 21st-century skills concerning technology. As a testament to our dedication to accomplishing this goal, we have acquired a Microsoft online platform called Imagine Academy for all of our Aldar Academies and all of our schools as Certiport accredited test centres. This means that all of our staff, students and associated school communities can learn cutting edge technology and technical courses and acquire industry recognised certifications! We are officially the 1st private school group in the region to offer Imagine Academy another example of how we are leading the field concerning technology integration in all areas of pedagogy.

Beyond these tools, we’ve built our curricula around the demands of our increasingly digitised world, for example, computer programming is now taught from our primary years upwards, to help students master a skill that is in high demand before their professional lives begin.
